Dublin Idol winners chosen

Dublin recently hosted its third annual “Dublin Idol” contest, and announced that the following participants were chosen as the winners.

The top choice in the fifth to eighth grade category was Rohan Fonseka, while the winner of the ninth to twelfth grade grouping was Amber Knezeevic.

They were named as the best in a ceremony held at the Dublin Farmers’ Market at emerald Glen Park.

The competition was emceed by KKIQ radio host Steve Fox, and started out with 24 singers, each performing a song of their choosing with no musical accompaniment at all. Of these, fourteen were picked to go on to the final round. In this, they sang the full version of their chosen piece, along with the appropriate music.

The final portion of the contest was judged by Dublin councilwoman Doreen Wehrenberg, Bob Campbell and also Kathy Blackburn. There were scored on the quality of their voice and also how they handled the stage. A company that provides printing services can produce score sheets, name tags for those who take part, decorations and any other items that the organizers feel would make the event even more of a success.

Cash prizes were awarded or the top three spots in each category, as well as a trophy for the winners, who will also be recognized by the Dublin city Council at an upcoming meeting.
