Dublin class to build better drivers

An initiative has been organized in the community of Dublin to help to ensure area youth are safe when they take to the streets as new drivers.

The Start Smart classes, which have been developed through the support of the San Ramon Valley Unified School District and local detachments of the California Highway Patrol, will seek to equip those who take part with a greater respect for the rules of the road. The different factors that can affect a person’s ability to drive safely will be discussed, as will the dangers of risk-taking behaviors.

To help encourage a high level of participation in the class, and also to demonstrate how safety can affect the whole family, parents are required to attend with their son or daughter. The class is also mandatory for high school students who wish to obtain a parking permit. Each youth who complete the class will receive a certificate that indicates this, and the organizers advise that these be retained for future use. Items like these can be both designed and the printed by a local Stationery printing company.

The class is being offered to students between the ages of 15 to 19 on February 13 in California High School’s Performing Arts Theater, and it is free to participate. More information can be obtained on the CHP Golden Gate website.
