Dublin area to attend local pumpkin presentation

Members of the gourd family, pumpkin are believed to have first been grown thousands of years ago in North America, and a Dublin area farm will soon be celebrating this Halloween staple.

Whether they are made into pies, Jack o'lanterns, grown for their seeds or even made into boats for a fundraiser, pumpkins are a popular crop. The presentation planned by Forest Home Farms will explore them in depth, and it will also introduce gourds, squash and other members of this family of vining plants.

Attendees who visit the venue for the session will learn about how these plants are grown and used, and each child will be going home with a miniature pumpkin they have decorated themselves. Their parents will receive a recipe for preparing winter squash, and the activity is part of the venue’s Fun On the Farm series of Saturday in-person activities for families.

Making discoveries about agriculture may help kids to develop an appreciation for where the food on their plate comes from. Activity Books, coloring sheets and other learning materials to hand out during a special event may all be prepared by Print shops.

Dublin families who would like to learn more about the history of their Halloween pumpkin and its cousins such as squash, loofahs and gourds, will be on offer on October 28th. The venue is located at 19953 San Ramon Valley Boulevard.
