The Karen Pryor Academy in Dublin will start its program for dog training next month.
The academy specializes in teaching animal training and behavior and focuses on the importance of positive reinforcement. The program will last six months and is aimed towards those pursuing a career in dog training.
Students will learn both the fundamentals and advanced skills needed to train dogs. The course will provide students with learning materials, which are usually supported through printing services. The academy also looks to build a community of trainers through its programs. Entrants can then expect to be involved with others in their fields while taking the course.
The program will involve online lessons and in-person workshops to help students develop their knowledge and hands-on skills. The course is divided into four units, each of which will have a workshop that can be accessed after students finish their online lessons.
The workshops will take place on set dates, so students must finish their unit lessons beforehand. Each workshop will last two days, and students must bring their dogs with them to the location. Dates for the workshop are listed at on the Academy’s website. Also, due to the COVID-19 situation, the workshops may shift to a virtual format.
The course will start on March 19, and anyone interested must register by March 5. Students will need to pay a tuition fee of $5,300 to enter.
