The objective to bring a fresher, hipper atmosphere to Old Town Clovis has taken another step forward with the opening of its first tasting room since an ordinance amendment was passed permitting them.
559 Local, which started its craft brewery in 2012, stepped up to be first to take advantage of an amendment to allow tasting rooms for beer and wine. Before the amendment, which was passed by Clovis City Council in March, it was necessary to be either licensed as a bar or be part of a restaurant.
Clovis, and particularly Old Town Clovis, has always projected a western flair. Old Town has celebrated cowboy culture with lot of collectible and antique shops and a variety of unique restaurants. However, in the last few years the move has been to attract a younger hipper crowd.
Local merchants thanks to the tasting room amendment combined with judicious use of printing services for advertisement can expect to attract a specific clientele, one that appreciates for wine and craft beer. A former restaurant owner, Nelson is now part of “On the Edge”, an Old Town coffee shop.
Thanks for to the city’s tasting room amendment, he and shops owners are planning on opening an establishment called “On the Edge After Hours” that will feature wine tasting and small plate dishes to accompany wine sold by the glass.
