Two Clovis students are among five San Joaquin Valley graduates awarded funds by the California Table Grape Commission in 2014. In all, the commission doled at over $160,000 in scholarships to California students this year.
The students, John Taylor Ball and Julia Reese, are receiving $20,000 four-year agriculture scholarships, according to an article in the Fresno Bee. Ball, a graduate of Clovis West, will be attending California State University while Reese, who graduated from Clovis North, is going to the University of California at Davis.
Two other central San Joaquin Valley students are also receiving $20,000 scholarships - Adilene Gonzalez from Hanford and Cristiano Alves of Kingsburg. The fifth student from the valley, Maria Lozano, a graduate of Reedley High School, is receiving money for a two-year field worker scholarship to Heald College in the amount of $3,500. Four other $20,000 scholarships were awarded to California students.
Of the scholarships given out this year, five of them went to the offspring of field workers. Over the 30-year history of the commission, more than 100 scholarships have been given to field workers or their children. Scholarships for students entering into agricultural programs have recently been added.
Organizations such as the California Table Grape Commission have ample opportunity to use brochure printing services in their efforts to inform the public all about grapes.
