Volunteers Week in Alexandria has seen many people’s efforts being celebrated and as a cause for thanks for the work put in over the years. Nowhere is this more the case than at some Alexandria Bield housing developments including Oakbank.
Here volunteers were thanked and publicly recognised for their work when the local MSP popped in to help present certificates to volunteers. They were recognised for such efforts as running day trips away from the development as well as evenings in for the likes of music or the ever popular bingo!
It was noted that volunteers can make a huge difference, even though it may not feel like it to them at the time. But many people giving only an hour adds up to a lot of benefits for those they are helping to make a difference for. It is hoped that others will feel encouraged to come forward and offer some of their time and talents too.
Organisers who need volunteers would do well to use a local printer to produce leaflets letting others know of what can be done and the rewards of doing some volunteering.
