MBE awards for duo from Helensburgh

Two of the best-known people to come from Helensburgh enjoyed a date with the Queen recently, as they made the trip through to Edinburgh to receive MBEs.

Top wheelchair tennis star Gordon Reid and successful local businesswoman Melanie Andrews were both made Members of the British Empire in last December’s New Year’s honours list.

Andrews, 52, had her son, husband and mother with her for this special occasion. She runs the popular Craigard Tearooms and received the honour for services to Helensburgh, having put considerable effort into trying to make it a nicer place to live, and to visit, and told the Helensburgh Advertiser that she was thrilled to receive recognition for this, adding:

“It was a very small, intimate setting and I only remember walking up to the Queen and walking away again. I was told we chatted for a while but I can’t remember what was said, it was

so surreal.”

Gordon, 25, has had a glittering sporting career that included two medal wins in Rio last year, as well as four triumphs in Grand Slam events last year. He was made an MBE in recognition of this and stated that it was one of his proudest moments.

Both recipients will be able to use places that Print Letterheads if they want to change their official business Stationery to acknowledge this honour.
