Helensburgh race winners return to compete

The annual Helensburgh 10k is scheduled to take place in the town again next month, and both winners of last year’s event are coming back in defence of their titles.

The winners of the men’s and women’s races last year were Daniel Bradford and Sophie Canty.

Bradford runs for the Shettleston Harriers while Canty competes for Dumbarton AAC. The former won the overall race with a 31 minute 28 second finishing time, while the latter took the women’s title with a 39 minute 8 second time.

Now both are indicating that they plan to come back to the town in an attempt to hold onto their titles. The 2024 Helensburgh 10k will be sponsored by Babcock, and Promotional Products from shops in Helensburgh could help to advertise it around the local area.

Chairman Kevin Johnson believes that a new record time could be set this year, commenting that he thinks the winner may cross the line in under 30 minutes.

Johnson went on to add:
“Other leading contenders are expected to be Sonia Samuels, who won in Helensburgh and on Glasgow Green in 2022; twice winner, Fionnuala Ross of Shettleston; defending Helensburgh champion from last year Sophie Canty and local rival Emily Carroll.”

This race will be getting underway from Hermitage Academy on Thursday, 30 May. Spots are still available for entry.
