These new gates can be found at James Street Park, which is located in the heart of Helensburgh, and were created at the same site as the old gates – although the actual firm has changed. Helensburgh Metal Fabricators was the company responsible for their predecessors, while Creative Ironworks manufactured the new ones.
The owner of this company, David Irvine, provided the labour and materials required to construct them and then carried the job out at no charge, because he was keen to make a contribution to the local community.
James Street Park Association spokesman, Norman Muir told the Helensburgh Advertiser that:
“This is a superb example of community spirit in action. And it is an example of the kind of sponsorship we hope that will continue as we seek to improve the area.”
He went on to add that the association was moving forward with its Plans for the district, applying with a local bank for an account and putting together a constitution and management committee.
