In Balloch recently the Friends of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs held its annual general meeting and awards ceremony.
This is an independent conservation and heritage charity for the National Park area, and for over 35 years has been working to protect, promote and provide for this area that extends to 720 square miles. The land includes mountains, lochs and glens and many people visit the area each year, including many writers and artists for hundreds of years. However 30,000 years ago the area was under ice, including the top of Ben Lomond! It was first settled around 7000 years ago and was just outwith the Romanised area of Britain, though no doubt seeing many skirmishes!
The Friends first started off in Balloch as a group to stop the proposed hydro electric scheme and really took off and caught the imagination with over 200,000 people signing the petition (remember this is pre-internet days!). Whilst winning this battle, they encountered many more over the years from forest issues to housing to leisure.
Groups like the Friends can benefit from using local printers to produce Booklets, guides and leaflets on all that the area offers.Get a Free Quote for Booklets
