You do not have to have eagle eyes to spot the latest change in Dumbarton. The red brick whisky tower is coming down!
Once the site is cleared then a local housing association are planning on building 200 new homes (up from 108 as per last year’s announcement).
The new homes will include the usual mix of affordable rent via the Housing Association. The Hiram Walker Tower has been both an icon and a centre for trouble for many years, as the unused and abandoned building attracted people intent on causing trouble or indulging in dangerous practices, such as the infamous leg dangling youths sitting at the top of the tower acting as if they were on an edge of a wall only 2 feet off the ground rather than 100 plus feet!
With the removal of the tower and the planned walkway linking the High Street and the Castle, this will be seen as a major development in the regeneration of Dumbarton Town Centre. Lots more people will be visiting the town centre
Town centre redevelopments such as this one in Dumbarton can benefit from using local printers to produce leaflets detailing what all is available locally.
