Dumbarton Castle has made the headlines twice recently!
Sadly one of the reasons is bad news as the castle sustained damage during the storms over the festive period. Thunder and lightning caused more damage than some invaders managed in the past when a direct hit on the castle caused some damage to a wall as well to electrical systems. The castle will be closed whilst repairs are being assessed and then carried out.
In the run up to Christmas, the castle was a topic for local primary 7 children as they studied issues such as propaganda as well as recruitment of reservists soldiers. The children also had talks from military personnel, historians as well as archaeologists. Some hands on experience was gained with the production of propaganda with the help of an artist. The use of talks, interactive presentations and visiting sites is seen as a vital way to encourage learning in primary age kids but also as a way to keep the memory of events past alive.
Historic sites like Dumbarton Castle can benefit enormously from using local printers to produce detailed leaflets to let visitors know the history of the place.
