Cost of Marriage to Increase in Dumbarton

The cost of getting married in Dumbarton, and indeed the whole of West Dunbartonshire, is going to be  raised shortly, if council officials get their way.  This will only apply to those who are using the Councils Civil Ceremony services.

Amongst locations affected will be venues in council run buildings throughout Dumbarton and West Dunbartonshire.  The charges will be raised by up to £75.  Fees for Sundays and Holiday Weekends will also increase.

The proposed increase will affect any civil marriage and civil partnership that uses the registration service and applies to all civil ceremonies including those held in external and private venues.

Currently Local Authorities can charge an accommodation fee on top of the basic statutory fee set by the Scottish Parliament, with also another, discretionary, amount to cover additional costs.

The new levels are seen to be competitive with both other local authorities as well as the Humanist Society of Scotland fees, though of course this is a service that can be free in some Churches.

Service providers, especially those who offer the most competitive rates are well advised to use a local printer to produce quality leaflets letting prospective couples know what is on offer and at what price.
