Balloch Regeneration Plan to Be Unveiled

The people of Balloch have been, since January 2016, asked to comment on what would make the town a pleasanter place for people to live in but also to work there as well as visit.  The response was excellent as more than 150 local residents and businesses took part.  Added to this there was a workshop that had more than 50 people attending it.  This was a time for people to not only to see and hear about ideas for their area, but also a chance for them to make their views known on the various proposals and ideas that were put forward.

For one of the areas, West Riverside, the Plans had a focus on making the connections between the town and Loch Lomond Shores better.  This would mean opening up the area, with the plus point of walkers getting a much improved view of Loch Lomond.  Also included in the Plans for this section would be a selection of kiosks which would allow businesses to run activites along the lines of cafes, community events, bike hie and pedalo hires amongst others.

The currently poor signage to Balloch Park and Castle would also be improved to make it easier for visitors to the area to find these attractions.  It is not clear from the Park that there is a castle nearby and good Signs would change that perception.

The most ambitious part of the whole project would be a curved bridge, or perhaps a viewing platform which would provide a direct link from Eat Riverside to West Riverside.  This was recognised as being perhaps for the longer term.

Of more importance and relevance to locals is the need to improve the town centre.  Proposals here included creating more open space, one at the Station and another at the village square and these two areas getting a full make over in terms of surface and looks with vehicles being restricted as well as new lighting.  This then lead to a discussion on parking and making sure locals and tourists alike had enough spaces to make use of these improved facilities.

Events such as these are great to use local printers to provide information via Brochures, pamphlets and Flyers to local residents to keep them all informed.
