Balloch Primary School's Big Friendly Read Competition

Balloch Primary School age children are being encouraged to compete in a competition for this summer’s big read called the Big Friendly Read.

Competing schools have the chance to be crowned the WD Summer Reading Challenge Champions 2016.  The competition is being co-sponsored by Scotland’s Libraries and is aimed at encouraging school children to pick up a book and read it.

The challenge is for children to read a total of six Books before the school holidays end, with the Books each being borrowed from a local library.  All competitors are eligible to receive small prizes along the way.  There is a website to log in to and keep track of how well you are doing and of course it is all for free too!

The Books to be read have to come from a list of 72 titles, split into two categories based on age, 4-7 and 8-11.  They cover a wide variety of genres so there is bound to be something for everyone in the list.  Encouraging reading amongst younger people is seen to encourage good habits that will be lifelong and help them realise ambitions as well as dream.

Competitions like this can use local printers to produced leaflets for distribution to school kids and their carers.
