Balloch Castle targeted by theives

Balloch Castle in Balloch Country Park was one of three buildings targeted by thieves who stole £20,000 worth of lead.  The thieves had struck sometime between noon on Thursday 10th and the following Tuesday morning.

Two other buildings were targeted over the same time frame and police believe it was the same team that hit all three buildings.  The amount of lead taken suggests that the thieves would have needed a large van to carry all the lead away from the sites.  It is hoped that some members of the public will have seen the thieves at work on the roof of Balloch Castle and maybe able to help identify them.  Also local CCTV is being checked to see if anything suspicious was filmed during the timeframe the thefts happened.

Thefts like these from public buildings can often be seen as victimless crimes but Police have pointed out that there are people who work in these locations that are deeply affected by these crimes, especially when they realise that the perpetrators have almost certainly visited the scene beforehand to work out their Plans.  It is not known how long it will take the various buildings to be brought back up to watertight condition following the lead losses.

Organisations such as the Police can use local printers to produce Posters and Flyers detailing the issues for the general public to be able to read about the crimes nad what they can do to help.
