In Alexandria a new pilot Breakfast Club project will be launched after the summer holidays at Christie Park Primary. Whilst initially operating on a trial basis it is hoped that if the numbers are good enough then the Club will become permanent.
This Club will bring the school into line with other Vale of Leven schools as they already have Breakfast Clubs running. The cost for the new club will be the same as for existing clubs, which see an increase in prices to 80p for the first child with subsequent children from the same family costing 35p. This marks an increase in the charges to families which was controversially and narrowly passed (9-7) at a recent Council Education Services meeting. Some councillors were proposing that the service should be free due to the high level of poverty in the area as well as the current high usage of local foodbanks.
Overall the parent council of the primary school in Alexandria are delighted to see the introduction of the new Breakfast Club.
