75 year old Dumbarton lady running a half marathon

A 75 year old lady from Dumbarton, Rose Harvie is again running a half marathon!  This time it is for the memory of a friend who sadly has lost their battle against cancer.

One of Scotland’s main cancer charities, the Beatson Cancer Charity, will be the main beneficiary of the run and local people can support Rose’s efforts by visiting www.justgiving.com/Rosemary-Harvie1 where more details can be found.

Rose, whose family has a medical history involving heart attacks and strokes is hoping that she can get across a message that healthy exercise can literally be a life-saver.  It does not have to be to Olympian standards but even a regular gentle walk can make a difference.  She started running when she turned 60 and knows that you cannot change what is in your genes but you can make a difference by improving your health and lifestyle through sensible exercise and a balanced diet..

The run is not until October so there is plenty of time to either exercise yourself and get fit enough to take part, or to make a donation, or indeed to do both!  Rose recommends social occasions such as the local park walks where you can chat and walk or jog as a good way to start off.

Charity events and participants can benefit from using local printers to produce appropriate leaflets detailing their efforts.
