The rink, called the Big Skate, is to be situated at the head of the city’s Parade, and will ensure that Watford rates amongst the locations with the finest outdoor winter ice rinks, alongside the likes of Somerset House in London and the Rockefeller Plaza in New York.
The Big Skate rink will measure 25 by 15 metres and be covered with real ice, providing a superb Christmas counterpoint to the giant tree, which will be placed nearby.
Dorothy Thornhill, Watford’s mayor, told Heart Hertfordshire News that:
“Having an ice rink in Watford means families can enjoy this classic wintertime activity without having to make an expensive trip into London. I hope to see office parties starting their night with teams taking a spin on the ice and it will make a great diversion for Christmas shoppers.”
With numerous seasonal activities plus a space for performances also planned, the rink is sure to be a hit, and the council will be able to entice people using the full colour printing offered by Watford brochure printers.
The facility is set to open on 22nd November and will remain in place until 4th January, with tickets available now from the local box office.
