Runners retain their Watford crowns

Victoria Knight and Paul Martelletti have successfully defended the Watford Half-Marathon titles they secured back in 2015.

The victory of Martelletti was achieved by a convincing margin, despite the fact that he completed the course more quickly back in 2015. This year’s comfortable result in the male contest contrasted with a narrower gap between Knight and her nearest competitor.

The races started within Cassiobury Park. Almost 2,000 competitors finished the course, which ended at the same park in which it commenced.

After the long run, Knight beat Hayley Munn by a mere five seconds. Munn had actually been the favourite to win because of her personal best, but a journalist that the local experience of Knight proved decisive on the day.

Martelletti finished his exertions about five minutes ahead of the remainder of the field. He runs for the Victoria Park Harriers and he may have been disappointed that he was about 40 seconds slower around the course than he had been last year. However, he would likely have been able to press ahead faster if he had been obliged to do so. If the likes of Luke Delderfield had been closer to him at the end, the athlete might have recorded an even more impressive time for the circuit.

The excitement generated in both races could be used in marketing an event in 2017, particularly if full colour printing is used.
