Popular TV drama features Watford location

A well-known building in Watford has appeared in a drama series on TV.

Viewers from around Watford may have recognised one of the Hertfordshire’s town’s notable buildings making an appearance if they were tuned into ITV recently. Scenes from the six-part psychological thriller Angela Black were filmed in the town. Producers of the miniseries used the YMCA Orbital Community Hub to represent the police station in one of the instalments.

Production companies will often use real buildings and dress them to appear as entirely new locations to suit their purposes. For its role in the Angela Black episode, the bold YMCA Logo Design on the building would either have to be kept out of shot or covered during filming.

Setting a scene in an existing structure rather than on a sound stage can make shows feel more authentic to viewers, yet also reduce production costs.

The series revolves around the titular character attempting evade her controlling husband, and the Watford building situated on Haines Way appeared towards the end of an episode after he is arrested by the police.

The Orbital is a centre that provides inclusive and affordable services to the local community. It regularly hosts more than 30 groups, involving 42 activities and classes that range from different Forms of dance to creating healthy lifestyles. It operates seven days a week.
