A development that would include hundreds of brand new homes as well as retail and commercial space could be built at a Watford site, with the Plans set to be submitted to the council.
McLaren Living is the company behind them. It specialises in housing developments, but its plans for the site on Clarendon Road, Watford incorporate commercial areas alongside the homes. The chosen site covers 1.75 acres and was previously occupied by Watford Police Station. Hertfordshire Constabulary moved the station to George Street and McLaren bought the land.
It wants to build a sizeable ‘mixed use neighbourhood’ on it that would have approximately 300 homes, all of which would be available to rent. The commercial space would take up roughly 30,000 ft. Local housing developers like this can use Watford brochure printing outlets to show off new homes once building is complete.
The managing director of McLaren Living, Matthew Biddle, stated that the firm was thrilled to have taken over such a good piece of land. He then said that the company was consulting with people living in the area as well as the council before any construction work began.
This public consultation is taking place at the moment. The hope is that the developer will be able to send its planning application to the council for a decision by the end of the spring.
