Fresh wheels for Watford nursery

Youngsters attending a nursery school in Watford now have a brand new library bus, after efforts were made to refurbish one previously used by the local council as a mobile book lender.

Parkgate Infants and Nursery is located to the north of Watford, and managers of the centre are hoping that the new bus will make reading for pleasure a more appealing prospect for pupils.

A number of events, including using it as a setting for story sessions, are being planned to help achieve this goal and the school can use full colour printing in Watford if it wants to provide lively supplemental materials related to the Books.

Three children from the school who won a recent Book Week competition, organised by the Watford Observer, were given the task of officially opening the bus – and an Oscars-style ceremony was held on the same day to mark the winning stories from this competition.

The librarian at the school, Pat Farr, told the Watford Observer that:

“It was a fantastic day and the children thoroughly enjoyed it.

“We had such wonderful comments from everyone who came along and the younger children also thoroughly enjoyed their time on the bus.”

All of the classes from the school got to experience the new library bus, and all pupils left with a book of their choosing, with governors and parents also getting the chance to see the bus.
