During phase three of the regeneration, the road between Watford’s centre and the train station will be narrowed. Cyclists and pedestrians will be given the same priority as cars. Public art and green space are going to add variety to the Clarendon Road area. Graphic design is often useful when planning redevelopments such as this.
Peter Taylor, the town’s mayor, told the Watford Observer:
“Clarendon Road is a key business hub where global companies are based. It’s important that we create a great first impression of our town that encourages people to come in and experience the many things Watford town centre has to offer.”
Watford Borough Council and Disability Watford have been working together on the scheme. Accessibility is going to be boosted by the construction of suitable kerbs and the installation of high-quality lighting. Funding from the Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership and Hertfordshire County Council has come into play.
An existing taxi rank on Clarendon Road will have to be relocated. If all goes to plan, the whole project should cost less than £10 million.
Care is being taken to minimise disruption for residents, motorists and entrepreneurs. Much of the regeneration is going ahead during the night time. All the changes should be implemented prior to 2024.
