Walthamstow’s Stoneydown Primary School (SPS) is hoping to attract development funding. The Building Better Communities (BBC) initiative is being implemented by builders’ merchant Jewson. SPS wants to use new money to deliver a classroom appropriate for pupils with special needs. However, the school must get public support if the vision is to be realised via Jewson.
Parents at SPS have been doing their bit. Cakes have been baked and raffles have been held. Printing services from Walthamstow can be used to promote diverse events such as these.
Waltham Forest Council (WFC) is backing the school in its efforts to address the requirements of all its pupils. It tweeted:
“Vote for Stoneydown Park Primary by 20 June. They’ve been shortlisted a Building Better Communities prize from builders merchant Jewson for an outdoor library. Your vote could change this photo to a lovely new colourful reading room!”
It is hoped that the scheme will benefit the children who may need it the most. They could be suffering from bereavement or they may have a learning disability.
English is not the first language of all the children who attend SPS, so an outdoor space may be used to help drive up literacy and communication skills. The school council has played an important role in design terms, which has enabled the bid to have a chance of success.
Votes can be cast here, but today is the final day of voting.
