A local producer in Walthamstow has created a new comedy-related work placement possibility.
The creator of Walthamstow’s successful 2020 Socially Distant Doorstep Carnival, Frank Sweeney, has developed a new initiative that will offer a hand-picked selection of young people the chance to learn how to produce live comedy performances. The new endeavour will see Sweeney join forces with Walthamstow’s renowned Soho Theatre.
Local picture houses and theatres can often use poster printing service to advertise their upcoming attractions and special events. The six-month placement planned will see four people aged between 16 and 24 help the producer and theatre organise 2022’s “New Acts of The Year Showcase”. The renowned event is almost four decades old and has featured famous comedians like Catherine Tate and Russell Brand in the past.
A resident of Walthamstow, Sweeney grew up on Church Road in Leyton. Commenting on the new opportunity, he outlined the career potential for those who decide to apply:
“This is about arts and business management, as well as technical production, marketing, human resources and customer services. All of these are transferable skills and Soho Theatre is the top comedy venue in the country.”
He added that he was especially thrilled to be working closely with Soho Theatre after hearing of its Plans for a new 1,000-seater venue in the old Granada cinema next year.
