An outdoor exhibit in Walthamstow is paying tribute to a famous artist from Finland.
The Walthamstow Wetlands is teaming up with the William Morris gallery in a celebration of Tove Jansson. The artist is the creator of the beloved children’s characters known as the Moomins, made popular in the UK through animations on television.
The East London nature reserve is now hosting a special art exhibition over the summer this year entitled “The Woman Who Fell in Love with an Island”.
The outdoor exhibition intends to draw parallels found between the Wetlands and the Finnish island of Klovharun, which the artist visited each summer for close to 30 years, with her partner fellow artist, Tuulikki Pietilä.
Organiser of outdoor events at parks and nature reserves can sometimes use banner printing services to create eye catching advertisements for their events and attract attendance.
Visitors to the event can enjoy a showcase of Jansson’s bird studies, photographs, writings, and drawings, which will be displayed within the Wetlands’ fully restored engine house. They can also take part in an art trail that includes a recording of an essay by Jansson for download that is read aloud by her niece and an audio piece created by Erland Cooper, the multi-instrumentalist.
‘The Woman Who Fell in Love with an Island’ exhibition will take place at Walthamstow Wetlands from June 18 until September 23.
