Walthamstow celebrates polymath artist

A renowned gallery in Walthamstow will honour a multi-talented Welsh creative.

A Walthamstow exhibition is set to honour Wales renaissance man Frank Brangwyn. A polymath artist, Brangwyn excelled in a wide range of creative disciplines including oil and watercolour painting, illustration, design and printmaking. Professional artists and hobbyists alike sometimes use expert colour printing services to create reproductions of their work to sell and to keep.

Dubbed “Joy and Solace: Frank Brangwyn and music” the upcoming event will focus on the recurring theme of instruments, music and music makers in the artist’s work. The semi-permanent exhibition will pay an ongoing tribute to the celebrated printmaker, painter and craftsman who helped establish Walthamstow’s famous William Morris Gallery.

Along with prints, oil paintings and sketches by Brangwyn, the exhibit will also feature treasures from the artists personal collection. Among these works are drawings by Frederic, Lord Leighton and Walter Sickert. The exhibition pays tribute to Brangwyn's love of music, which he found a great source of consolation when experiencing times of difficulty.

Thanks to recent conservation work conducted with help from the Friends of the William Morris Gallery, the exhibition will include pieces of Brangwyn's artworks being shown for the very first time.

The Joy and Solace: Frank Brangwyn and music will be William Morris Gallery at Lloyd Park on Forest Road in Walthamstow on June 28. Entry to the exhibition is free of charge.
