Walthamstow art event planned following funding

As a result of government funds, a new art event is in the works for Walthamstow.

Almost £500,000 worth of support has been awarded to local arts and culture enterprises and organisations in the Waltham Forest area as part of a government scheme to provide emergency support amidst the pandemic.

One such organisation is Artillery, based at the Mill on Copper Mill Lane. Responsible for the acclaimed E17 Arts Trail, it has been awarded a grant of £68,803, a sum that will not only allow it to continue operating, but enable it to plan its next project – a brand-new Arts Trail. Local arts-based organisations can sometimes use flyer printing services to create leaflets showcasing artwork, encouraging members of the public to visit exhibits.

Artillery believes that cultural and creative activity can build communities and make them stronger, and stated that in the recent crisis, there had never been a more important time for people to unite and support each other. The organisation’s ongoing work has recently been threatened by this year’s COVID-19 outbreak.

Commenting on the grant received, Artillery Co-directors of Artillery, Morag McGuire and Laura Kerry said:

“We’re thrilled the culture recovery fund is supporting the grassroots work we do. Our mission has always been to mobilise creativity in neighbourhoods.”

The next E17 Arts Trail from Walthamstow’s Artillery will take place in 2021.
