Ancient trees saved in revised residential plan

A Walthamstow building project has updated its Plans, meaning the area’s historic trees can still stand.

A housing scheme to construct two massive blocks of apartments has recently been revised and resubmitted to the local council. The extensive redevelopment from Capital & Regional is valued at £200m and was first approved back in 2018. However, following a consultation with members of the public living in the area, the Plans have undergone several amendments.

One such change is the preservation of an avenue containing lime trees off over a century in age. A Walthamstow campaign called “Save Our Square” has successfully saved all but four of the trees, with the new development Plans reflecting this decision.

Property developers presenting residential schemes will sometimes create branded Brochures stamped with their Logo Design to show interested parties. As well as providing new accommodation options, the large-scale project also aims to regenerate the area. Walthamstow’s underground station will benefit from a new step-free access entrance and many shops will be created.

Local Councillor for growth and development, Simon Miller, commented:

“Key parts of the scheme include new retail units which will create more jobs for local people and provision of a new entrance to ease congestion at Walthamstow Central Underground Station.”

If the newly devised Plans receive council approval, over 500 homes will become available, following construction in 2021.
