Tunbridge Wells to host new 5K run
The celebrated Hospice in the Weald Run will present a new five kilometre race for 2019 to encourage a greater number of participants.
The new version of the running event, which acts as a fundraiser for the Hospice, will be held in Tunbridge Wells beginning at Lower Cricket Ground. All those taking part will be given a t-shirt to run in, emblazoned with The Hospice in the Weald’s house and hills logo design.
The race has been running for 14 years, but to date has only featured a distance of 10km. Immensely popular, the race is already well attended. Last year, during adverse weather conditions of torrential rain, 569 people took part.
The aim of the shorter race distance is to increase the number of entries and encourage families and people of all ages to enter the event. Relationship Fundraising Coordinator for the hospice, Michelle Winstone, commented:
Three firms are set to sponsor the event, property developers Dandara, letting agents Savills and insurance providers CSIS.
The five kilometre Hospice run will take place on Sunday, September 22 with the race officially beginning at 10am.

“The introduction of the 5K run recognises that running has become increasingly popular. The shorter route will make sure everyone is welcome. It will appeal to the less experienced runner as well as families, and maybe some of our more mature competitors, too.”
