Tunbridge Wells to appreciate acid jazz
A celebrated jazz funk band from Kent are playing a springtime set at a famous live music venue in Tunbridge Wells.
Acid jazz fans in Tunbridge Wells will get a treat in May. Beloved Rochester band The James Taylor Quartet (JTQ) are confirmed to perform at the Tunbridge Wells Forum for a single night show. Well-established venues often employ poster printing services to design attractive advertisements for the concerts they present.
Formed in Kent back in 1985, JTQ is the brainchild of James Taylor. The Hammond organ player created the jazz-funk band after his former group, The Prisoners broke up. While the group has experienced several line-up changes since its inception, current personnel of JTQ includes band leader and organist James Taylor accompanied by vocalist Yvonne Yanney, guitarist Mark Cox, drummer Pat Illingworth and bassist Andrew McKinney.
The first single from JTQ was a funked-up rendition of “Blow Up” the main theme written by Herbie Hancock used in the 1966 film with the same name. The release was applauded by DJ John Peel and music periodical NME and was followed by “Mission Impossible” JTQs mini album and continued success.
The James Taylor Quartet will now play live in concert at the Tunbridge Wells Forum on May 30. The venue is located at Fonthill, The Common in Tunbridge Wells and the gig will begin at 7.30 pm.
