South Birmingham to celebrate alternative punk sounds

The post-punk band Ist Ist is on tour and due to play a gig in South Birmingham at the beginning of April.

This Manchester-based outfit is composed of Adam Houghton, vocalist and guitarist, Matt Peters, guitar and synth, bassist Andy Keating and Joel Kay on drums. Emerging in 2014, they have a reputation founded on the intensity of their live performances and a strong work ethic.

Ist Ist's first album ‘Architecture’ was released on their own 'Kind Violence' label during the pandemic. A follow-up ‘The Art of Lying’, came out in 2021, reaching 87 on the UK's Chart Top 100.

Having established themselves as a leading light of the Manchester scene, they set up their own KVR studios. This 4,000 sq ft community-based recording centre is available to all musical artists from across the north-west.

The band's third album, ‘Protagonists’ surfaced in 2023 drawing a positive response. It claimed the 41 position in the UK chart and a UK-wide and European tour ensued, including sold-out venues. They now are back in 2024 with a Live LP recorded at the 700-capacity Melkweg in Amsterdam.
