Declan Nerney, a leading Irish country star, is currently on his 'Round and Round' Tour and is due to play Solihull in mid-March.
Nerney was born in Drumlish, County Longford, at a major turning point in the history of popular music. The pop and rock earthquake that delivered Elvis, the Rolling Stones and of course the Beatles, whilst in Ireland the showband scene was emerging. Both of these developments helped to shape Declan.
Most of the leading groups made appearances in Drumlish. Indeed, Nerney saw the likes of Joe Dolan, Philomena Begley and The Capital Showband on stage live. Standing close to the performers, he would observe the playing of Seamus Mahon and Dan O’Hara, in particular, their finger work as they slide across the strings. Guitarists who provided the inspiration that led him to embark on a musical career.
It has now spanned over forty years at the pinnacle of Irish music, having garnered accolades and had numerous hits. This will be a sentimental evening of live music provided by him and his band as well as a chance to revisit a distinctive period in Irish music.
