Bella Gaffney is due to play a gig in South Birmingham to coincide with the launch of her new album in early May.
The solo singer performs and Pens acoustic folk orientated songs that incorporate personal compositions of traditional works. She takes inspiration from both lyrical and narrative songwriters, including the likes of Michelle Shocked and Richard Thompson. Her most recent material has been influenced by the national lockdowns.
Gaffney’s music career began at the Topic Folk Club, winning the 2016 Danny Kyle Award. The following year saw her debut album "Heaven Knows" released to positive reviews. In 2018, she received a musical development award from the Friends of Towersey Festival and has since appeared at a host of other festivals, including HebCelt and the Gate to Southwell.
She also performs regularly with the popular Celtic/bluegrass band, The Magpies, who have toured Ireland and notably appeared at Glastonbury and the Cambridge Folk Festival, as well as guesting on Mark Radcliffe's Radio 2 show. Their first album "Tidings" garnered many positive reviews from critics.
