South Birmingham hosts American blues/punk/rock musician

The singer-songwriter Jon Spencer is currently on tour and is due to play a gig in South Birmingham at the beginning of September.

This renowned live performer has been a seminal figure in the development of independent music, dating as far back as the middle of the 1980s. With tours right around the globe, and the release of more than 25 albums, notably 'Orange' and 'Extra Width'.

His music consists of an eclectic mix, encompassing a broad spectrum of styles and genres. It incorporates American roots, including Rockabilly and Hill Country Blues, as well as Hip-Hop and Industrial Noise.

The leader of bands such as Heavy Trash, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, and John Spencer & The HITmakers, he has also played in Boss Hog, The Gibson Brothers and The Honey Killers.

Jon retains something of a reputation for working with other artists. One can point to Beastie Boys, Nancy Sinatra, David Holmes and Bomb the Base, to name just a few. He has also been involved in producing the likes of Mike Edison, Cheater Sticks, Mama Rosin and Jesper Munk.
