Higher education summit to be held in south Birmingham

The Higher Education Technicians Summit (HETS) will be held at the University of Birmingham later this month.

It is being hosted by Midlands Innovation Universities, whose Logo Design is readily identifiable, in conjunction with the Science Council.

HETS is the biggest gathering of its kind in the UK and endeavours to advance best practice and knowledge, as well as promote the interests and professional standing of technicians working in higher education throughout the UK and Ireland.

This event will examine important issues surrounding education and key skills, in particular, the part that they play in innovation. These include the future Plans for the technical education of young people, industry collaboration, the skills gap in the UK and greater employment opportunities. There are also sessions looking at networking and professional development, as well as a selection of ‘hot topics’ for discussion.

HETS publicly acknowledges the skills and achievement of technicians with the awarding of the prestigious Papin Prizes, which recognises the attainment excellence by individuals in their specific field.

This year's keynote speaker is Professor Alice Roberts, the well-known scientist, author and television presenter. Her primary area of interest concerns humans, their function and organisation and how they relate to the wider environment.

HETS will take place at the University of Birmingham on 25th June and attendance is free.
