RRC raised the profile of its MCS coffee morning by inviting Karen Lumley MP to the event. Jenny Wheeler, a deputy mayor for Redditch, also took part in the occasion. Over £600 was raised by selling coffee, cake and raffle tickets. The promotional efforts of volunteers next year could be enabled by the ordering of leaflets in Redditch.
Malcolm Jones, the event organiser, told the Redditch Standard:
“It was a real community effort. The donations from residents were more than generous and kept us stocked with cake so that the coffee ‘morning’ lasted all day, right through until 4.30pm in the afternoon.”
The main event was held in a gazebo in the hamlet of Callow Hill. The cakes were home-baked. Bramley Cottage Golf Society helped out RRC by handing over a cheque worth over £1,000. This sum had been raised at a day of golf which took place at a club connected to the Abbey Hotel. A representative of MCS, Philip Roberts, was presented with the donation.
Jones thanked the people who had donated the prizes. The fact that there were over 40 prizes encouraged participation in the raffle on the day. Furthermore, Jones made it clear that he was optimistic about the prospects for the event in 2017.
