Redditch to get new centre for young people

A brand new centre that will offer a wide range of different activities for young people is to be created in Redditch by the council and a number of partner organisations.

The location for it will be near the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, with a sizeable unit having been set aside within the covered market section that has been given a makeover in recent times. Once it opens, this facility is set to offer a mixture of workshops and activities targeting young people living in Redditch.

Before that can happen though, the chosen unit needs to be worked on to make it fit for purpose. That task will be undertaken by youngsters from the area alongside older mentors from Volunteer it Yourself, a local community organisation.

Among the jobs that the 17 youngsters charged with fitting out the unit will take on are redecoration, building a cupboard for storage use and fitting a kitchen. The exterior will have bird and bee Boxes, a planter and benches added.

Cllr. Matt Dormer stated that he was delighted that another valuable amenity would be added to the centre of the town. It is hoped that the centre can open by September.
