Redditch students reach finals of business contest

Tudor Grange School (TGS) pupils from Redditch have made it through to the national finals of business competition BASE.

The young entrepreneurs from TGS outperformed their peers to reach the BASE final. Their competitors had come from 15 teams within the region. If the TGS students do well in the final, they may need more note pads from their school and any triumph is likely to be recorded through newsletter printing.

A spokesperson for the school told the Redditch Advertiser:

“This is an excellent achievement by our students and I am immensely proud of them. It just highlights the potential our students have in what they can achieve.”

The spokesperson added that the students had been great ambassadors for Redditch and TGS. Further, they said that the sense of anticipation about participation in the final was exciting. Nearly 50 heats were held on a national basis, with about 3,000 young people taking part. The final is due to be hosted in June, at a venue within Birmingham.

BASE is the ICAEW’s national competition for business and accounting. Individuals between the ages of 16 to 19 are free to participate in it. Over a dozen pupils from TGS took up the challenge. The idea is that embracing the challenges posed by the contest can give insights into careers in fields like business, finance and accountancy. It is even hoped that employability skills can be boosted by the process as a whole.
