Redditch set to get new Turkish eatery

Plans to set up a Turkish takeaway and restaurant at the site that used to be home to Browning’s Solicitors in Redditch have been given the green light by the local council’s planning committee.

The proposed location is in the Market Place centre, adjacent to the British Heart Foundation and the nightclub Fever, with the former offices of the solicitors currently lying disused.

These will be transformed into an eatery on the first and ground floors, while the other two levels will be used as living quarters by those running the restaurant.

Once it opens for business, there are places offering flyer printing in Redditch that can be used to help promote the takeaway to residents of the town.

The retail centre’s manager, Ken Williams, stated that there had been considerable interest in this site, which has lain disused for over two years. However, no planning applications had been submitted until now.

Joe Baker, a local councillor, told the Redditch Standard that the site had become an eyesore in recent times and had been subject to vandalism, adding:

“I hate to see empty businesses on the high street so this is a really positive thing for that side of the town centre.”

The planning committee’s chairman, Andy Fry, said that he had supported the application, because the building retains its beauty and deserves to become a part of life in the town again.
