Redditch homes to be built on ex-church site

An old Redditch church building is to be knocked down so that a number of brand new houses can be constructed where it currently stands.

St Gregory’s Roman Catholic Church closed its doors 17 years ago and the building has been lying disused since then. Now, the site that it stands on, in Winyates Way, Redditch, has been bought by a developer. GreenSquareAccord submitted Plans for a scheme consisting of 25 houses to be constructed there, which were accepted by the local council.

The actual building of these houses will be carried out away from the main site. Panels made out of pre-fabricated timber will be used to build them, with this method allowing for lower levels of waste than standard construction, making the process much more environmentally friendly.

Brochure printing supplied by shops in Redditch can be a good way for developers to showcase the new homes they have built, as they look for purchasers or tenants for them.

Speaking to the Redditch Advertiser, Carl Taylor from GreenSquareAccord said:

“We are delighted to have sealed this deal which will help bring back this derelict land into much needed affordable housing for the people of Redditch.”

Management of the development will be undertaken by Redditch Co-Operative Homes. No date for work on the church demolition to take place has yet been given.
