Redditch gets better hospital access

A transport connection between the Worcestershire Royal Hospital (WRH) and Redditch is now in place.

The community transport scheme can get Redditch residents to the hospital and back for approximately £30. This is much cheaper than using a standard taxi. A Print company within Redditch may be used to promote the new service. Volunteers are poised to take charge of the Community Transport Connections (CTC) initiative going forward.

Rachel Maclean, the local MP, is pleased because a bus service to the hospital stopped recently. She told the Redditch Standard:

“I’m also pleased the Department for Transport’s Total Transport initiative has been able to part-fund the scheme. The government subsidy will mean users are able to use this door-to-door service at a much lower rate than those available commercially.”

A Droitwich hub will be used by CTC, and patients and hospital visitors will be able to call the centre for free. A reference shall be provided to them, which will enable them to arrange their transport as necessary. However, individuals with special needs will not have to sort things out independently.

Worcestershire County Council has lent its backing to the innovative transport solution. Providers of health care in the region have also stepped up to the plate. If people want to keep using the 150 bus route they are welcome to do so. This alternative would only cost travellers £5.10 for a return ticket. Unfortunately, the conventional bus service is unsuitable for patients with certain health problems.
