Redditch friends to cycle for charity

A group of friends living in Redditch and Bromsgrove have committed to undertaking a tough long-distance bicycle ride, with the aim of raising money for two children’s hospital departments.

The 15-strong group will be riding the 100 miles between Redditch and Cheshire next month, and all of the sponsorship money that is pledged will be given to Birmingham Women’s Hospital foetal medicine department, and the neurosurgery and neurology department of Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Those participating in the ride include both regular cyclists and first-timers, such as two teenagers – Brandon Winter and Ella McAfee – who are the youngest members taking part.

It was after Jason Simmons and Sarah Williams’ son Billy was born suffering from a brain condition, and received treatment from the two Birmingham hospitals, that they decided to try to do something to show their gratitude.

The delighted parents of Billy, who is now nearly two years old, have already expressed their thanks for the support and care he received, but now there is a chance to generate much-needed money for the hospitals.

As with other local fundraising efforts, the team undertaking this bicycle challenge can use flyer printing in Redditch if they want to promote it to potential sponsors.

Alongside the ride itself, a fun day has been organised that will feature golf, football, cake stalls, a raffle and a disco.

The ride takes place across 23rd and 24th May.
