Redditch has once again managed to secure the services of a celebrity to turn on its festive lights this year, which should help to ensure a healthy turnout for the event.
The man who will perform this important task is Aston Merrygold from the pop band JLS. In addition to switching on the lights, the singer will be available to meet local people who attend the event and sign autographs. All this will take place at the Kingfisher Centre, after the official lights switch-on.
Merrygold is not just a pop star. Alongside his work with JLS, he has also had stints presenting shows on television, acting and dancing. This means he will be a well-known face to many residents of Redditch.
After meeting with people and turning on the lights, he will perform his new Christmas show live. The organisers of events of this sort sometimes use local shops that offer flyer printing to help promote them.
It is not a new experience for Redditch to attract a celebrity for its lights switch-on. Last year the task was performed by former singer Peter Andre, who also put on a full show afterwards.
The organiser is Redditch BID and it will be hoping that the 2024 event proves to be as big a success as in 2023.
It will take place on 7th December.
