New job coach sets up shop in Redditch

Redditch Borough Council (RBC) is backing one-to-one help for unemployed people within the town.

RBC is supporting a fresh job coach service which will develop personalised assistance to those in need of work. Regardless of how an individual lost their job, they can be given the chance to find employment which fits with their aspirations. The new policy could lead to an increase in the demand for Business Cards in Redditch.

John Fisher, a councillor with responsibility for support services, explained:

“It might have been a long time since someone last had to apply for a job, or perhaps someone would simply benefit from the right advice.”

Councillor Fisher recognised that people may feel that specific obstacles are blocking their progress. He clarified that the fresh service is intended to give extra support to residents who may feel that circumstances are not in their favour.

The job coach service can be applied to directly online. However, Jobcentre Plus has the capacity to make referrals to the coach. In addition, local voluntary groups and community organisations will have the ability to recommend the use of the service going forward.

RBC obtained the funding to deliver the service from two distinct sources. National Lottery money has been provided via the Big Lottery Fund, while the project has also benefited from a contribution by the European Social Fund.
