Hockey comes home to Bromsgrove

Bromsgrove Hockey Club (BHC) is returning to Bromsgrove after a spell in nearby Redditch.

BHC was formed back in 1890. However, in 1993 it moved to Redditch because the management were tempted by the prospect of playing on an artificial surface. Now the club is to be based at St Godwald’s Park. Postcards from postcard printing in Redditch may be used to showcase the new arrangements. Andy Potter, the chairperson for BHC, commented on the ceremony associated with the return to Bromsgrove:

“We are expecting people who will have travelled from outside of the region to join us for this historic and long awaited occasion – it’s set to be a great night with some very special guest players lined up to take part.”

A big event to welcome BHC back to Bromsgrove was planned. A prominent national politician was invited to attend. In addition, a special match was arranged. This exhibition of hockey was to be followed up by a musical performance from the Miss Fortunes. A skills workshop was pencilled in by the organisers for earlier in the same evening.

BHC did not manage to get funds for its new location without a struggle. Three campaigns were required to put the necessary resources together. Nevertheless, Mr Potter explained how many people would be happy at the success of the campaign because of the potential enthusiasm for seeing home matches in a local venue.
