Funds secured for new train station in Redditch
A brand new railway station seems set to be built in Redditch, with the news that the financing needed to move forward with the project has now been secured.
Redditch Council has set aside a total of £10 million from its budget for this new facility, which will take the place of the town’s current railway station. The new building will be a two-storey one that comes with storage room for bikes and will also have a crossing linking it with the bus station. The hope is that it will add to Redditch’s appeal for visitors.
This plan was given the official green light at a recent meeting of the council. During the meeting, it was also agreed that residents of Redditch would be consulted over a proposal to knock down the library and build office spaces, cafes and a new public square in its place.
The town would not be left without a library though, as the intention is to build a new one within the town hall. Libraries sometimes look to shops in the same locale that provide brochure printing, so that they can advertise any upcoming activities that they have planned for families.
The county council has stated that it is hoping that the planning application for the new railway station can be submitted either next year or the one after.
