The purpose behind this event is to generate much-needed money for an appeal called Rory the Robot, aimed at improving Redditch’s prostate cancer treatment, which costs £1.6m.
It takes the form of a sponsored ride lasting either 18 miles or 36, depending on participants’ fitness levels, which starts at Redditch’s Alexandria Hospital and moves through much of the town.
Last year’s debut ride succeeded in bringing in sponsorship funds of over £8,500, and saw 120 people – including Worcestershire Acute Hospital NHS Trust staff members – participating.
This kind of local charity fundraising event can really be helped by services like poster printing in Redditch when it comes to getting the word out about it.
Jon and Paul Gething, a son and father from the area, entered the ride last time round, as they were keen to raise money for the hospital that treated them after an accident:
Paul told the Redditch Advertiser.
“Having one of these robotic systems at the Alex will make such a difference, not only to patients, but to their friends and families supporting them throughout their treatment.”
The ride, which can be entered by anyone aged 12 and over, will be held on Saturday, September 12.
